The Car of the Future

Tesla Motors, run by the entrepreneur Elon Musk, have revealed their newest car, the model 3. Tesla is an car company in California that is leading the charge, producing new and efficient electric cars. These cars are not hybrids, they run solely on electricity. Electric cars are new to the automobile market, and have been quite expensive. However, the Model 3 was Musk’s attempt at making an electric car for the masses, that was affordable yet still efficient. The Model 3 will retail at $35,000, which may seem like a lot, however the average car purchase in America is just around $30,000. Also, there are massive tax rebates available for people who purchase electric cars and after these rebates, the Model 3 Tesla may retail for as low as $25,000. That would make this car the cheapest and most affordable electric car ever built.

Right now you might be thinking, “what is so special about electric cars?” The biggest importance of electric cars is that they do not use gas, which means there is no CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Cars produce over 12% of all carbon emissions, which is a greenhouse gas and a major cause of climate change. Using electric cars will reduce these harmful emissions and protect the Earth. Electric cars contain a rechargeable battery pack which powers an electric motor to control the wheels.

There are some downsides to electric cars, however. The Tesla automobiles all have batteries that can last about 250-300 miles per charge. That means that every two hundred plus miles, you have to stop to charge the car. To accommodate this, tesla have created many Tesla Charging Stations across America. These stations are for Tesla users, and allow the car owners to charge their cars for free. That means that you never have to pay for fuel ever again.

The Model 3 is expected to ship out to the people who ordered it sometime in 2017 or later. Elon Musk; the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity; is currently building a “Gigafactory” to mass produce these cars. In the past week, when the pre order for the Model 3 has been available, there has been over 276,000 pre orders already. In the first two months this year, the top selling car, the Toyota Camry has sold 33,000 cars. Last year, the Camry sold a little over 360,000 cars. That means that the Model 3 is on pace to outsell many if not all of the top cars in the country this year. The Tesla Model 3 is a car of the future. It is the cheapest electric car ever and is competitive with its gas guzzling counterparts.
